Cheap Shots

The good old soft-focus look. Ever wondered why in Film Noir the females had this soft, »glowy« look, while you could count the wrinkles on the hardboiled detective’s face? Well, they put nylon stockings in front of the lenses when filming the »beauty shots«. You can do that too.

Stockings (different densities, fishnet, colored, …), stretchy viscose, large-meshed (see-through) fabrics and countless other possibilities can give you effects ranging from something akin to a neutral density filter to more drastic effects, usually achieved by diffusers.
